King Charles and the Princess of Wales will reunite for one of the most important events on the royal calendar next week after missing it last year due to their cancer diagnoses.
The monarch and Catherine will attend the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on Monday, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
Kate’s inclusion marks yet another step towards a busier program of public events after she was forced to step back from official duties in 2024 while undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, which finished in September.

The King, too, took a period of time away from public duties on the advice of doctors however his treatment is continuing.
The monarch’s diagnosis was revealed in February, 2024, and one month later Kate told the world that she, too, was battling cancer. Both had undergone surgery in the weeks before their separate announcements.

In January, the princess revealed she was now in remission and has carried out a steady stream of engagements since then.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will lead the royal family at the service which celebrates the Commonwealth, a community of 56 independent member countries including Australia.
This year’s Commonwealth Day theme, ‘Together We Thrive’.

The Prince and Princess of Wales will join the King and Queen along with Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

But Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh will be absent. Sophie is scheduled to travel to New York that day for a separate event and March 10 is Prince Edward’s 61st birthday.
Last year, it was left to Queen Camilla, Prince William and the Duchess of Edinburgh to represent the senior royal family at the Commonwealth Day service which also marked 75 years since the establishment of the organisation.
King Charles is Head of the Commonwealth, a role he took over from his late mother Queen Elizabeth II.
Since 1969, His Majesty has visited 48 Commonwealth countries, many of them on numerous occasions.
The King and The Queen most recently visited Australia and Samoa in October, 2024, for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Following the service, the King with launch the Commonwealth Sport King’s Baton Relay from Buckingham Palace’s quadrangle.
The relay, officially the King’s first, starts the countdown to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
