On April 21 Princess Isabella of Denmark will turn 18, which is as big of a milestone birthday in Denmark as it is in Australia.
It’s one that’s celebrated with great pomp and ceremony across the country, and especially for King Frederik and Queen Mary‘s elder daughter.
Since Isabella’s birthday falls on Easter Monday, her birthday will be officially marked in advance, with not one but two events.

“The birthday will be marked officially on 11 and 15 April in Aarhus and Copenhagen, respectively, with celebrations that pay tribute to the communities of the young generation with culture, creativity, sustainability and volunteerism as the principal elements,” the Danish royal household announced on Thursday.
The party details were announced alongside new images of the young royal, who looked the spitting image of her Tasmanian-born mother.
The shots were taken in Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg by photographer Steen Evald, who also was behind the official portraits on proclamation day in January 2024.
Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday is set to be reminiscent of her older brother, Prince Christian’s big bash in October 2023.
The celebrations will kick off at 2pm on April 11 (midnight April 12 AEDT) at Aarhus City Hall, where young talents from a variety of creative fields, including music, sport and design, will gather together.

The designers will put on “a fashion show with a focus on sustainability and future materials”, while musicians will perform on-stage and dancers in training will entertain the audience.
Young culinary talents will create the official birthday cake for the event, which will feed about 200 people invited.
There’ll be 100 young people from local youth organisations and educations along with 50 youth from Aarhus, who will have won a ballot to be there, and their plus-ones.

On April 15, the event will be an evening one, taking place at The Royal Danish Theatre’s Old Stage at 7pm (5am April 16 AEDT), with the royal joined by her whole family.
The televised birthday variety performance will include a crowd of “more than 1000 young people ranging from the ages of 17 to 24 from the whole realm”, which will again operate on a lottery basis.
The performers for that event are yet to be announced.
