In 1998 Sarah, Duchess of York, made a special appearance on hit sitcom Friends, starring in the episode ‘The One with Ross’s Wedding: Part 2’.

Photographed here with Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani and Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, Sarah made a brief but memorable cameo in the show’s fourth season’s finale.

In it, Joey runs into the duchess while wearing a Union Jack top hat, pulling out his camcorder to film the encounter.

According to the book I’ll Be There for You: The One About Friends, Fergie had been “coaxed into the appearance by her daughters”, with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie both big fans of the show.

“At a time when Fergie-bashing had become a national pastime, Friends was a welcome relief,” author Kelsey Miller added.
