The Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler has opened up about the terrifying time her son Beau, 11, spent 33 days in hospital during a recent health scare.

The 43-year-old American actress and mother of two, who has multiple sclerosis, told People she felt “helpless” during his health battle and things got so bad, she and her sports star husband Cutter Dykstra thought their child was “going to die”.

Beau was hospitalised and diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, ADEM “is a rare neurological condition” that “causes inflammation in your central nervous system”.

“Truly, we thought he was going to die,” she told the publication.

“There was nothing recognisable about my son,” she told People, explaining things got so bad at one point that he couldn’t walk, talk or eat.

“It was probably the most helpless I’ve ever been.”

In August last year, she shared a sweet video on Instagram with her followers of Beau leaving the hospital to cheers from family, friends and staffers.

She called him a “brave boy” and “a walking miracle” in her post.

“After 33 days, we are busting out of here! My brave boy, you are a walking miracle. The rest of this story will be Beau’s to tell, if he chooses to one day,” Sigler wrote.

“Thank you to the INCREDIBLE staff at Dells Children’s Hospital. The way you take care of your patients and the way you guide their families through the process, I just don’t have enough words.”

She added: “I’m in awe of your patience, dedication, and expertise…. But, no offense.. I hope we never see you again ✌️Thank you all for the love and prayers. They worked.”

The actress, who hails from New York, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 20.

“Two weeks later, I had a very bad reaction to a surgery and got sepsis and was in the hospital and almost died,” she said.
